Looking at ocean freight, air freight and road freight as modes of transport and focusing on documentation, types of carriers, chargeable weight calculations, containerisation, types of services and common charges of all modes. Looking at different types of containerisations, specification of packing, packaging, marking, and labelling. Basic overview of hazardous cargo classes, packing groups, UN numbers and documentation required.

Any person dealing with the risks & costs in the supply chain – exporters, importers & freight forwarders acting on behalf of the importer & exporter.

Assessment required for competency.
  • Describing the roles played by those involved in international multimodal logistics operations.
  • Describing the infrastructure for the transport of internationally traded goods by surface.
  • Identifying equipment used to pack and transport goods by surface.
  • Explaining the operation of ports and harbours in the surface freight environment.
